There is a theater in a small German town that became significant and important point on the map of the world ballet — Dance Company Theater Osnabrueck. This company consists of only 12 persons, a multi-talent team that attracts the most creative choreographers from all over the world.
The music score that inspired Mauro de Candia — is a famous piece Boléro by Maurice Ravel. The form of this orchestral piece hypnotizes: the same music theme repeats 18 times without any changes of melody, harmony or rhythm.
Mauro de Candia sculpts the chorographical form of ballet on the basis of music structure — precise as clock mechanism. As for the content, the choreographer refers to the time of 1920s with its mechanization of life, imminent turn to dictatorship and inner presentiment of war.
For the first time, in Bolero he heard a dystopia. Dancers of the Dance Company Theater Osnabrueck are standing on the stage in uniform under cold light and clouds of smoke. The stage decoration is ascetic. The plastic language is unified and compact: the world where individualities are demolished is hurtling towards a catastrophe. There are a lot of things to reflect on, again, and it’s clear now toward what we need to move, in order to move forward…
