Welcome to Buenos Aires, the city that never sleeps! The first steps are seductive and smooth. The choreographer intends them to be an invitation to Maestro Piazzolla himself. For Argentinians, life is the dizzying rhythms of the tango. “More, Maestro, more… More music! More life!” Tango After Dark is a confession of love for the internationally renowned composer. It’s almost impossible today to picture tango without his poignant music.

However, one shouldn’t expect the “academic purity” of traditional tango from these dancers. The choreographic fabric of the performance is based on a mixing of different styles, and the main thing in the dance is the perfectly authentic, bubbling passion that crashes down in waves of emotion on the audience.

This performance has no external framing, because the dance itself tells the story, laying bare the internal reality of each of the dancers on the stage. The soul of the dance helps two people transform into a single entity – that’s the essence of tango.

“It's a mesmerising spectacle - and whatever you do, don't slip out before the curtain calls, because the king of tango has one final trick up his sleeve.”

The Mail on Sunday

LOST IN THEATRELAND
