She is a dancer, a choreographer, and the artistic director of Guangdong Modern Dance Company.
Li Pianpian graduated from Beijing Dance Academy with a degree in Contemporary Choreography and in 2007 joined one of the leading dance troupes in China, the Guangdong Modern Dance Company. It was here that she revealed her directorial talent. One of her first works was the ballet Yu… Mao, which was presented in the
programme of the Chinese Dance for 12 Days, a prestigious festival for young choreographers organized by the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
The next step on her path to success was the premiere of her production Point One – a sequel to the ballet Point Zero – at the 12 th Guangdong Dance Festival. The work was highly rated by critics and audiences, and over the next few years it was performed on leading stages of the world as part of the Beijing Dance Festival, the opening ceremony of the Tripartite Economic Alliance Summit in New Zealand, and at dance festivals in Australia and Malaysia.
In 2020, her two-act ballet Where and Wherever / 宿 was premiered. A philosophical modern ballet that references China’s centuries-old culture and prompts the viewer to ponder existential themes, it captivated Asian audiences at the 14 th Guangdong Arts Festival and at the Greater Bay Area Dance Festival.
